Social Participation Improve Intervention for Older Adults: A Systematic Review

Abstract

|
Objective : This study examines research trends in interventions to increase social participation among older adults and analyze the interventions that are being applied.
Methods : We conducted a systematic review using the PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases to retrieve relevant papers. The search period ranged from January 2013 to August 2023. Our search terms were structured as (“elderly” OR “older adult” OR “senior”) AND (“social participation” OR “social engagement”) AND (“intervention” OR “program”).
Results : Following the analysis of the five studies, the identified interventions included one art program, two group programs, one exercise program, and one cognitive and exercise program. Group programs were the most frequently employed interventions, and both cases demonstrated a significant increase in social participation.
Conclusion : Group programs have a significant effect on the context of social participation interventions for older adults. As the group program had a positive effect on social participation intervention, such programs should be implemented more.
